NTCOG Matching Funds Goal Attained!

The Friends of the Santa Fe Trail would like to thank all those who contributed to our campaign to raise the Matching Funds for the NTCOG Grant. We have attained our $5,000 goal and now qualify for the matching funds from NTCOG. In total the Friends had to raise $20,000 in matching funds to get $80,000 in NTCOG funding for the study of the Santa Fe Trail. Friends Group Wins Loving My Community Grant to Help Eliminate Graffiti and Maintain the Trail

The Friends of the Santa Fe Trail has been awarded a grant to buy pressure sprayer equipment to help eliminate graffiti along the trail as well as do basic clean-up.  The city has been just covering up the graffiti with paint but we plan to use a pressure sprayer/sand blaster machine to actually clean it off the concreet rather then just cover it up.  The plan is to organize a group of volunteers once every 3 months to walk the trail and keep it looking good. Click Here for Details.

Garland Road Bridge is up!

Well if you have not been down Garland Road in the last week... drive by and check out the new bridge that is now in place.  No word yet on when exactly the trail will be open but workers were all over the job site on Saturday moving the trail forward.  Here are a few photos.

East Dallas Veloway Update

Many of you probably know that the Santa Fe Trail was first called the East Dallas Veloway.  As it turns out the East Dallas Veloway is actually much bigger it is the name given to an entire East Dallas Corridor that stretches through the heart of Lakewood and all the way up past the Home Depot on Skillman and meets up with the White Rock Creek Trail near Central Expressway.
