Well the good news is that a connection to the Santa Fe Trail through downtown to Katy Trail is a top priority for the Dallas Bike Plan... Bad news is the City has to now find the money to do it.

DALLAS CYCLE SUNDAY June 26th
The inaugural Dallas Cycle Sunday will take place on June 26th. This first-time event will feature a ride that will begin with a “meet-up” downtown at Main Street Garden Park at 10:00AM (see map). At 10:30AM all riders will do a loop through Downtown and Deep Ellum, and arrive at the Dallas Complete Streets Kickoff/Better Block on Ross Avenue at approximately 11AM. White Rock Creek Trail gets a Friends Group
White Rock Creek Trail... That trail that connect White Rock DART Station and Lake with the new Cotton Wood Trail and goes all the way to LBJ Freeway. The trail is a little more narrow then the newer trails but is a great ride along the creek bottom and with a group to help improve it could be a great destination in itself. The 2011 Dallas Bike Plan final public meeting is set for January 20, 2011 at Dallas City Hall Flag Room (6E North) from 5 to 8 pm, with a presentation at 5:30 pm in the Council Chamber. At this January meeting the revised network recommendation maps and a full draft of the 2011 Dallas Bike Plan will be available for review. We look forward to seeing you there!

Draft of the New Dallas Bike Plan is now Available
As you probably already know Dallas is about to update our bike plan. We have hired a top ranked national consultant to help us come up with this new plan. Before summer started they had the first public meeting then just a couple of weeks ago they had another meeting. The draft plan is now up on the website for all of us to review. So take a moment and to look at what they have put together. We will probably be living with this plan for the next 10+ years.

East Dallas Veloway Update
Many of you probably know that the Santa Fe Trail was first called the East Dallas Veloway. As it turns out the East Dallas Veloway is actually much bigger it is the name given to an entire East Dallas Corridor that stretches through the heart of Lakewood and all the way up past the Home Depot on Skillman and meets up with the White Rock Creek Trail near Central Expressway. New Cottonwood Trail Moving Forward
If you ride up the Whiterock Creek Trail just past the DART bridge that goes to Plano you see a little gravel road to the North. A few weeks ago I saw that they put the bridge in place at the Royal DART Station for the Cottonwood trail and took a chance that I would be able to get across. As you will see in the attached photos they are stll working on the foundation of the trail and have not started laying the concreet yet. Katy Trail Extension Construction Has Started
Currently the Katy Trail starts at the American Airlines Center and ends suddenly just shy of the SMU Campus near the old bread plant that SMU just announced development plans for. But for many years the City has had a plan to extend the trail all the way up to the Whiterock DART Station. Well construction started recently on that new leg of the Katy Trail.
